Frequently Asked Questions
How much do custom blinds cost in NYC?
Custom blinds in NYC typically run $180–$650 per window for standard-size faux wood or aluminum blinds with cordless or corded lift, and $450–$1,400 per window for real basswood Venetian blinds with 2" or 2½" slats. Motorized blinds on Hunter Douglas PowerView, Lutron Sivoia QS, or Somfy systems typically add $400–$900 per opening for the motor and integration. Oversized blinds, specialty stains, and commercial vertical blind systems for floor-to-ceiling glass price higher. Every quote includes laser measurement, slat color/stain selection, fabrication, professional installation, and motor programming where applicable.
Wood blinds or faux wood — which is right for my apartment?
Real wood blinds (basswood) are warmer, lighter, and the traditional choice for living rooms, bedrooms, libraries, and formal spaces in prewar and townhouse settings. Faux wood is the right call for kitchens, bathrooms, basement units, and any room with humidity or temperature swings — real wood can warp in those conditions, faux wood doesn't. Modern faux wood is visually nearly indistinguishable from real wood at normal viewing distance and costs 30–50% less. Many of our NYC clients spec real wood in primary rooms and faux wood in kitchens and baths.
Can blinds be motorized?
Yes. We install Hunter Douglas PowerView (battery-powered, integrates with Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit — ideal for retrofits), Lutron Sivoia QS (top-tier whole-home integration for new construction and gut renos), and Somfy RTS/Zigbee (excellent value, RF retrofits) on real wood, faux wood, aluminum, and vertical blinds. Battery life on rechargeable Li-ion motors is typically 6–12 months per charge. Hardwired Lutron systems are standard for commercial offices and conference rooms.
Are custom blinds child-safe?
Yes — modern custom blinds use cordless lift systems by default in residential applications, which meet the federal child-safety regulations established by the Window Covering Manufacturers Association and ANSI. Older corded blinds in homes with children or pets should be retrofitted to cordless or motorized lift. We carry cord-cleat hardware and breakaway tilt-wand attachments for the rare cases where corded operation is required (commercial offices, conference rooms, board rooms).
Do you repair existing blinds or only install new ones?
Both. We restring corded blinds, replace tilt wands and tilt mechanisms, swap broken slats, replace headrails, and retrofit older corded blinds with cordless or motorized lift systems. For Hunter Douglas blinds under warranty we handle the warranty claim directly — many lift mechanisms are covered for life on the EverWood, Parkland, and Heritance lines. See our blind repair NYC page for details.
Do you provide a Certificate of Insurance for my building?
Yes. We carry full workers' comp and general liability insurance and provide COIs to every co-op and condo board in NYC — typically within 24 hours of the request. We're set up with most major management companies and know the building-specific COI requirements in most major properties.
Which neighborhoods do you serve?
We install custom blinds across all of Manhattan (Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Tribeca, SoHo, Chelsea, Hudson Yards, Midtown, Battery Park City, FiDi, West Village, Greenwich Village, Gramercy, Flatiron), Brooklyn (Williamsburg, DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Fort Greene), Queens (Long Island City, Astoria, Forest Hills, Bayside), the Bronx (Riverdale), Westchester, Long Island, Hoboken, Jersey City, and Greenwich, CT.
