Frequently Asked Questions

Are your fabrics NFPA 701 compliant?

Yes. Every commercial fabric we specify and install meets NFPA 701 Test 1 or Test 2 as required by Connecticut fire code for textiles in public buildings. We provide the manufacturer's signed NFPA 701 certificate with every job for inclusion in your fire marshal's inspection file and the architect's certificate-of-occupancy package. Where ASTM E84 Class A is additionally specified, we can provide compliant fabric with both certifications.

Do you work through formal public bidding processes?

Yes. We regularly bid public school, municipal, library, and state projects throughout Connecticut and the broader Fairfield County region through standard procurement channels. We handle sealed bid submissions, attend pre-bid walkthroughs, respond to RFIs during the bid period, and provide all required documentation including NFPA certifications, insurance certificates, prequalification packages, and DAS/SBE/MBE/WBE participation forms.

Can you install during the school year?

Yes, with proper coordination. The majority of school installations happen during summer break or extended spring break to minimize classroom disruption, but we routinely handle phased renovations during the school year by installing classroom-by-classroom on evenings, weekends, holiday breaks, or after-hours windows agreed with the facilities director. We coordinate directly with school security and provide a daily schedule of which classrooms are being worked.

Do your installers pass background checks?

Yes. Every installer working on a K–12 project carries a current background check meeting the standard required by Connecticut public school districts, plus state-issued ID, and we provide the documentation to the school's HR or facilities office before any work begins. We follow each district's visitor-management protocol on site.

What's the warranty on commercial shades?

Fabric warranties are typically 10 years for fade resistance and structural integrity from the major commercial mills (Phifer, Mermet, Hunter Douglas). Mechanism and motor warranties run 5–10 years depending on the product line — MechoShade and Lutron offer the longest commercial mechanism warranties in the industry. We add a 1-year installation workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer coverage and respond to warranty service calls within standard commercial response times.

Can you integrate shades with the building management system?

Yes. We install MechoShade, Lutron QS, and Somfy commercial systems that integrate with BACnet, Modbus, and standard building-management protocols. We coordinate directly with the electrical contractor, the controls integrator, and the BMS vendor to confirm shade scheduling, daylight harvesting, and occupancy-based scenes work as specified before turnover. For new construction we participate in the controls coordination meetings throughout the project.
