Frequently Asked Questions

How much does curved track drapery cost in Brooklyn?

Pricing depends on the window geometry (three-sided bay versus five-sided bay versus continuous bow), the total track length, the chosen material (aluminum versus steel), the operation style (hand-draw versus motorized), and whether the project is one window or a coordinated parlor floor of several. Drapery fabric, lining, and fabrication are quoted separately. We provide a firm written quote after on-site measurement so you know the full investment before any metal is bent.

Can you install on my existing brownstone without drilling into the original plaster molding?

Yes — and we do this on most Brooklyn brownstones. We use ceiling-mount brackets with concealed hardware, or we mount above the window casing into solid blocking we add behind the wall. Original moldings, plaster medallions, and any decorative trim stay completely intact. For landmarked properties we coordinate any visible hardware finish with your existing fixtures so the installation reads as period-appropriate.

How long from measurement to installation?

Typical lead time is 2–3 weeks from approved shop drawing to delivery for the track itself to be shop-bent and shipped from the factory. Add another 3–6 weeks if we are also fabricating custom drapery panels in our workroom — fabric availability and lining type drive that timeline. We schedule installation as soon as the track and drapery both arrive and are inspected.

Can curved tracks be motorized?

Yes. We install motorized curved tracks from Somfy and Lutron with full smart-home integration including Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, Control4, Crestron, and Lutron HomeWorks. Battery-tube motors keep installation clean on retrofits where you can't easily run new wiring; hardwired DC motors are the right choice for new construction or gut renovations where the electrician can rough in low-voltage power before drywall.

Will the drapery pull all the way open on a bay window?

Yes, with proper track length and a correct stack-back calculation. We typically extend the track 20–30% beyond the window opening into the wall returns so the drapery panels fully stack behind the window glass when fully open. This keeps the daytime view unobstructed and prevents the bunched fabric from blocking light at the corners. The exact extension depends on fabric weight, lining, and panel width.

Do you install in apartment buildings where I can't drill into masonry?

Yes. We use ceiling-mount solutions that anchor into wood ceiling joists or structural concrete via approved fasteners. For strict co-op or rental buildings that prohibit drilling entirely, we can recommend removable tension-track or freestanding-pole solutions, but we'll be honest about the trade-offs in look and operation. Bring your alteration agreement to the consultation and we'll plan around it.
