Frequently Asked Questions

How much do motorized shades cost for a Tribeca penthouse?

Pricing depends on the system (Somfy RTS battery, Hunter Douglas PowerView, Lutron Sivoia QS Triathlon, or Lutron Palladiom hardwired), the number and size of windows, the fabric specification, the level of smart-home integration, and the building's logistical requirements (COIs, elevator hours, after-hours work). A full penthouse can range significantly depending on those factors. We provide a detailed line-item proposal after a site survey rather than rough numbers in advance.

Can you integrate with my Control4, Crestron, or Savant system?

Yes. We work regularly with Lutron (QS and HomeWorks), Somfy (RTS, RS-485, and Sonesse), and Hunter Douglas PowerView integrations for Control4, Crestron, Savant, Apple HomeKit, and Lutron HomeWorks. We coordinate directly with your AV integrator from the design phase forward, provide them with the drivers and programming notes they need, and stay on site during commissioning to confirm every scene works end-to-end before we leave.

Are motorized skylight shades possible on angled glass?

Yes. We install Lutron Kirbé Vertical Drive, Hunter Douglas Duette SkyLift, and Somfy track-guided systems for skylights up to 90° pitch. Every skylight install is custom measured and engineered for the specific glass — angle, dimensions, fabric weight, accessibility for future battery service, and integration with the rest of the home. We do not use any system that simply hangs a shade across a sloped opening without rigid side guides.

Do I need to run power to every window?

Not necessarily. Battery-tube motors (Lutron Sivoia QS Triathlon, Somfy DCT) typically last 3–5 years per charge in normal residential use, depending on the number of daily cycles and the fabric weight. For new construction we strongly recommend hardwired 24V DC power because it eliminates battery service entirely, but for retrofits in occupied homes battery operation is usually the right call to avoid opening walls.

Can you retrofit motors onto my existing shades?

Sometimes. Standard aluminum roller tubes will accept retrofit Somfy or Lutron motors as long as the tube diameter, the fabric weight, and the bracket condition all check out. Cellular shades, Roman shades, woven woods, and specialty shapes generally cannot be retrofitted and need to be replaced with motor-ready product. We assess every existing shade on the site survey and tell you upfront which ones can be retrofitted and which can't.

What's the lead time for a full penthouse motorized shade install?

From signed contract to final commissioning, expect roughly 10–14 weeks for a Lutron Palladiom job, 8–10 weeks for a Lutron Sivoia QS Triathlon project, and 6–8 weeks for a Hunter Douglas PowerView or Somfy install. New-construction projects with rough-in coordination move on the GC's overall schedule rather than ours, and we plan around the certificate of occupancy date.
