Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Somfy Sonesse 40 motor?

The Sonesse 40 is Somfy's premium quiet 120V AC tubular motor for residential motorized shades. It runs at roughly 44 dB — quieter than a typical conversation — and is the go-to motor for luxury Manhattan apartments, hospitality, and high-end residential where hardwired power is available and silent operation matters.

Does Sonesse 40 require 120V hardwired power?

Yes. Sonesse 40 is a line-voltage AC motor, which means it needs a code-compliant 120V power feed brought to each shade pocket and properly terminated to the motor leads. We confirm the power feed, terminate the motor connections, and integrate the wiring cleanly into the pocket so nothing is exposed in the finished install.

How are the upper and lower limits programmed?

Limits are set after the shade is mounted level. Using the Somfy programming sequence, we raise the shade to the exact top position, save the upper limit, then lower it to the exact bottom and save the lower limit. On multi-window runs we set limits across all motors so every hem sits on the same horizontal line — that consistency is what makes the finished install look professional.

Can Sonesse 40 motors be controlled by a Somfy remote, a wall switch, or smart-home?

All three. We pair the motors to the homeowner's choice of Somfy RTS handheld remote, dedicated wall switch, or smart-home bridge (Somfy myLink, Bond, or a Lutron / Control4 / Crestron integration). Many of our 120V Sonesse installs use a wireless RTS remote for daily control and a smart-home bridge for scenes and automation.

Do you also repair existing Sonesse motors in NYC?

Yes. We diagnose and repair Sonesse 30, 40, 50, and Sonesse Ultra motors, replace failed motors in existing shade tubes, re-program drifted limits, and convert older R60 / DC switch-driven systems to modern Sonesse with RTS or io-homecontrol. Same-visit resolution whenever the parts allow.

Do you handle the building COI and freight elevator scheduling?

Yes — for Lexington Avenue, Park Avenue, Fifth Avenue, and other managed NYC buildings we routinely provide Certificates of Insurance naming the building, the managing agent, and the owner, and we schedule freight access ahead of the install so there are no day-of surprises.
