Frequently Asked Questions
How much do Rollease Acmeda motorized roller shades cost in NYC?
Automate™ battery-powered roller shades typically run $850–$1,800 per opening for standard residential sizes (up to ~72" wide) including motor, Li-ion battery, custom fabric, fascia, programming, and professional installation. Hardwired DC Automate™ adds the cost of the low-voltage transformer and a small allowance for the electrician. Oversized commercial shades on AC line-voltage Automate™ price from $1,400–$3,200 per opening. Pulse 2 hubs run $250–$400 each and one hub typically covers a full apartment or floor.
Is Makris Installations an authorized Rollease Acmeda installer?
Yes. We're an authorized Automate™ installer and service partner — trained on the full RB Series motor line, Pulse 2 hub programming, integrator-driver setup (Crestron, Control4, Savant, RTI, ELAN, KNX), and the manual R-Series and S-Series clutch hardware. Authorization means we can handle warranty claims directly with Rollease Acmeda for any motor or hub failure inside the warranty window.
Can I retrofit my existing manual roller shades to Automate™ motors?
Almost always, yes. If your existing roller shades use Rollease Acmeda R-Series or S-Series clutches (the most common manual mechanism in NYC), we can swap the clutch and idler for an Automate™ RB Series motor without changing the fabric, tube, brackets, or fascia. The shade goes from chain-pull to app-controlled in a single visit, typically 30–45 minutes per shade. We've also retrofitted competitor hardware (Coulisse, Hunter Douglas Architectural, generic OEM) but those usually require new tubes and brackets.
How does Automate™ compare to Lutron Sivoia QS and Somfy?
Automate™ is the price-and-performance leader for residential motorization that needs to integrate with multiple smart-home platforms — Alexa, HomeKit, Crestron, Control4, and Savant all consume the Pulse 2 hub natively. Lutron Sivoia QS is the gold standard for whole-home integration where the entire system (lighting, shades, HVAC) lives on a single Lutron head-end — premium price, premium reliability. Somfy RTS and Zigbee are excellent for simple retrofits where smart-home integration isn't the priority. Many of our clients run Automate™ in primary rooms and Lutron in dedicated home-theater and primary-bedroom installs.
How long do the Li-ion batteries last on Automate™ motors?
Typically 6–18 months per charge depending on shade size, fabric weight, and daily cycle count. A 48" wide light-filtering shade cycling twice per day on a sunrise/sunset schedule typically lasts 12–15 months. A 96" wide blackout shade cycling four times per day lasts closer to 6–8 months. Recharging takes 4–6 hours from a standard USB-C cable — most clients keep a spare battery on hand and swap rather than waiting. For installs where battery swaps are inconvenient (high ceilings, hard-to-reach windows) we recommend the hardwired DC Automate™ instead.
Will Automate™ work with Apple HomeKit, Alexa, and Google Home?
Yes — through the Pulse 2 hub. Pair the Pulse 2 to your router, pair the shades to the hub from the Rollease Acmeda app, and the shades are immediately accessible through Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. Voice commands, schedules, and scene presets all work out of the box. For HomeKit specifically, the Pulse 2 hub is HAP-certified so Apple Home, Siri, and HomeKit automations work natively without third-party bridges.
Do you service existing Rollease Acmeda installs that I didn't buy from you?
Yes. We service every generation of Automate™ motors and R-Series and S-Series manual clutches regardless of where the original install came from. Common repairs are battery replacement, motor swap on out-of-warranty units, clutch replacement on manual shades, bead-chain swap, and Pulse 2 re-pairing after a router or network change. See our Automate Rollease Acmeda repair page for detail.
Do you provide a Certificate of Insurance for my building?
Yes. We carry full workers' comp and general liability insurance and provide COIs to every co-op and condo board in NYC — typically within 24 hours of the request. We're set up with most major management companies and know building-specific COI requirements in most major properties.
