Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Somfy repair cost in NYC?

Most Somfy service calls in NYC run $185–$285 for the diagnostic and minor reprogramming (RTS pairing, limit reset, channel re-sync). Motor replacement on a typical Sonesse 30 or LT50 runs $450–$850 installed depending on tube size, fabric removal, and access. Hardwired Sonesse Ultra and commercial Glydea drapery motors are quoted after on-site inspection. We provide a written estimate before any repair work begins.

Can Somfy motors be repaired or do they need replacement?

Many issues — lost RTS pairing, blown limits, dead remote batteries, transformer failure, and incorrect end-of-travel settings — are reprogramming jobs and don't require a new motor. Internal gear failure, burnt windings, and water-damaged motors require replacement. We diagnose first and only replace the motor when it's genuinely failed.

My Somfy RTS remote stopped working — what's wrong?

Common causes are dead CR2430 coin-cell batteries, accidentally erased channel pairings, or a remote that was deep-reset by pressing the back PROG button. We re-pair the remote to the motor on-site in most cases. If the remote itself is damaged, we replace it with a Telis 1, Telis 4, or Situo equivalent and re-program all channels.

Why does my Somfy shade stop halfway?

Three usual culprits: (1) the upper or lower limit has drifted and needs re-setting via the PROG button sequence, (2) the obstacle-detection circuit is triggering on a bind in the fabric, brackets, or fascia, or (3) the motor's thermal protection has tripped from over-use. We diagnose which condition applies and correct it on the spot.

Do you service Somfy RTS, Zigbee, and Wi-Fi systems?

Yes — all three. We repair classic 433.42 MHz RTS systems, the newer Zigbee-based Somfy motors that pair to TaHoma switch and third-party Zigbee hubs, and Wi-Fi systems like myLink and TaHoma. We also re-integrate Somfy with Crestron, Savant, Control4, Lutron, Alexa, and Apple HomeKit after a hub change or network reset.

How fast can you come out for a Somfy repair?

We typically offer same-week diagnostic appointments across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, and we keep common Sonesse motors and Telis remotes in stock so most jobs can be diagnosed and repaired in a single visit. Emergency same-day service is available for commercial clients with a service contract.

Do you work in high-rise and pre-war buildings?

Yes. We carry $2M general liability, file COIs for co-ops and condos with 24-hour turnaround, and routinely service buildings on the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Park Avenue, Central Park West, and DUMBO/Brooklyn Heights. We schedule freight elevators and protect floors per building requirements.

Can you repair Somfy shades installed by another company?

Absolutely — most of our repair work is on systems installed by others. Bring us the brand, model number (printed on the motor head), and what's happening, or just snap a photo. We service all Somfy motors regardless of original installer and handle warranty claims with Somfy directly when the motor is still under coverage.

What's the warranty on Somfy motors and your repair work?

Somfy provides a 5-year warranty on most residential motors (RTS, Sonesse 30/40, Glydea) and a 7-year warranty on commercial motors. Our repair workmanship is warranted for 90 days. As an authorized Somfy service provider, we file warranty claims with Somfy on your behalf when applicable.

Should I repair my old Somfy motor or upgrade to a new platform?

If the motor is over 10 years old, repair has succeeded multiple times, or you want smart-home features the older motor doesn't support, an upgrade often makes more sense. We commonly retrofit older RTS systems to current Sonesse Zigbee motors with TaHoma switch, or migrate clients to Lutron RadioRA 3 or Rollease Acmeda Automate. See our Somfy vs Lutron and ST40 vs LT50 articles for guidance.
